Local Family Receives Assistance to Get Back on Track

Updated: Apr 10

In September 2024, Matthew* reached out to CAA for help with his water bill. A family of three, Matthew's son was the only member of the household with income, but it wasn't enough to sustain the bills and basic needs of all three of them. The family was nearly three months behind on rent, and nearly a year behind on some utilities, with no way of catching up.

Initially, Matthew declined rental assistance and wanted help only with utilities. But given the family's situation and the magnitude of backpay owed, Matthew's case manager explained the support we could offer to get them back on their feet. Several days later, Matthew reached out again, ready to accept help with rent, so his case manager worked quickly with the landlord to get Matthew and his family back up to date.

In just 8 days, CAA was able to support Matthew's family in their time of need, and to get them back to a place of stability and self-sufficiency. Matthew wrote this to his case manager:

"I would like to thank you for all of your help. You have been incredibly kind, and I can't tell you enough how much my family and I appreciate it. I don't know what we would have done without you. We are so grateful to you for everything...Thank you so much for taking care of everything so quickly. With your help and encouragement, I'm sure we will be back on track very quickly. God bless you for doing what you do."
