After her rental caught fire, Lynn* found herself and her teenagers in a hotel room. The insurance company was paying for the hotel, but only for a short time. She came to CAA looking for housing support in a time of crisis. Her case manager was able to connect her with a landlord that had an available, affordable rental option and was willing to work with our program.
When she first came to CAA, Lynn had a job waiting tables at restaurant, they were slow through the late winter, so she wasn’t getting enough hours to cover her expenses. After moving into the new rental, she found a new job at a local store down the street with a higher wage and more hours. In addition, her case manager helped get her signed up for PPL's OnTrack utilities assistance program, which helped her finally start moving toward stability.
Soon after, Lynn applied for a job at a local factory, where she was hired full-time at $21/hour with benefits and overtime. She was finally nearing the financial security, and was thrilled to have found such a supportive work environment. Unfortunately, on her first day of her new job, Lynn suffered a stroke.
While an additional crisis like this could have disrupted all that she'd worked toward, support from CAA made all the difference. In a few weeks, she was back to work full-time, and because of our programs, she didn’t fall behind on her rent or other critical needs.
Now that she is working consistently and feeling better, she was able to buy a dependable car. Lynn's goal when she entered our programs was to be self-sufficient. By December, that goal will be met.
To her case manager, Lynn wrote:
"CAA helped us get back on our feet again. Just needed a little help, and CAA helped me with that."
